Great Wall Spoken Chinese Course Level 1 (Beginner)

All students interested in learning Mandarin Chinese are invited to enroll in the Great Wall Spoken Chinese Level 1, offered as a non-credit course through the University of Oklahoma Confucius Institute.

This ten-week short-term intensive spoken Chinese (Mandarin) course is designed for learners with no previous background of the language to acquire the most basic language knowledge and skill to be able to conduct some basic conversation in the formal as well as informal social settings on a variety of topics. In this course, the Chinese phonetic symbol system, known as “pinyin”, will be introduced for the correct pronunciation of the language. The learning of Chinese characters is optional depending on learners’ interest and ambition. Practical daily conversation topics, such as greetings, introducing, getting information, asking for direction and time, shopping, talking about Chinese culture and food, etc. will be learned with plenty of in-class drilling and practice. The practical goal of the course is to enable learners to apply the knowledge and skill that they learn in class to the actual cultural and social situations.

The registration fee is $30 by check or credit card. All checks should be made payable to the University of Oklahoma, and due by the first day of the class.

Great Wall Spoken Chinese Course Level 2

This ten-week short-term intensive spoken Chinese (Mandarin) course is designed for learners with the most basic language knowledge and skill in conducting some basic conversation in the formal as well as informal social settings in a variety of topics. The learning of Chinese character is optional depending on learners’ interest and ambition. Practical daily conversation topics, such as talking about one’s appearance, asking and telling someone’s address, asking or telling about family members, asking and telling the time etc. will be learned with plenty of in-class drilling and practice. The practical goal of the course is to enable learners to apply the knowledge and skill that they learn in class to the actual cultural and social situations.

Prerequisite:

1) Having the knowledge of Pinyin and able to use Pinyin for very basic communication;

2) Having learned the most basic 80 Chinese words and expressions;

 3) Having the basic knowledge of Chinese

The registration fee is $30 by check or credit card. All checks should be made payable to the University of Oklahoma, and due by the first day of the class.
