Teaching Positions at Beijing Normal University

(Aug. 2016 - July 2017)

The Confucius Institute at the University of Oklahoma, a collaborative program between the University of Oklahoma (OU) and Beijing Normal University (BNU), regularly recruits English teachers for the School of Foreign Languages and Literature at BNU for the academic year of 2016-2017. Instructors will teach either English major or non-English major undergraduate students. Teachers who demonstrate excellence will be invited to resume their contract for another year.

Founded in 1902, Beijing Normal University is a key university under the administration of the Ministry of Education, a renowned institution of higher education known for teacher education, education science and basic learning in both the arts and sciences. The school has 22,000 full-time students, including 8,900 undergraduates, 11,300 graduates and 1,800 international students. The campus has one education faculty, 22 schools and colleges, two departments and 36 research institutes (centers). The library boasts over 4.1 million volumes and some 17,300 GB of digital resources, with 1,400 GB e-books.

Instructors for Non-English Major Undergraduate Students

 

The specifications of the position are as follows:

  • Courses: oral English, audio-visual (English movies), English debating, writing, Western culture, and etc.
  • Workload: 14 teaching hours per week, two hours office hour plus other duties as necessary, such as judges for competitions(with extra payment).
  • Salary and accommodation: commensurate with the applicant’s degrees, working experiences and the classes taught at BNU. 8000 rmb per month for BA holders, 9000 rmb for MA holders, 10000 rmb for PhD holders (the average expense for food in Beijing is about 1000 rmb per month). 12 months' salary and 8000 rmb as international travel expenses. Free apartment with necessary furniture and home appliances on campuses.
  • Free insurance provided by BNU.
  • Free auditing of Chinese language classes at BNU.
  • Applicants must be English native speakers.
  • Applicants, except as stated below, must have teaching or relative work experience of at least 2 years

1) MA holders in a relative major

2) BA holders in Education or Teacher-training

3) MA/BA holders in other majors but with a TESOL/TEFL certificate

  • Applicants with a TESOL certificate are preferred.

Instructors for English Major Undergraduate Students

The requirements of the position are as follows:

  • MA or PhD degree
  • Major in English literature, linguistics or applied linguistics are preferred; other majors (art, music, history, etc.) could be considered.
  • Preference to candidates with a TESOL certificate and who have some classroom experience teaching and organizing EFL learners.
  • Applicants except as stated below, must have teaching or relative work experience of at least 2 years

1) MA holders in a relative major

2) BA holders in Education or Teacher-training

3) MA/BA holders in other majors but with a TESOL/TEFL certificate

Responsibilities:

  • 14~16 hours of teaching per week
  • Supervising 6-8 BA students' theses each year
  • Courses: oral English, English writing, audio-visual, newspaper reading, western culture, etc.
